Day
Six: Friday
Our last day here. This morning when we woke up, we did not know what our job
today would be, until Harrison started hooking up the Bobcat trailer to his
truck. The gravel was already at the worksite, and we had rocks to move. We
waited a little while as Harrison, Todd and Dave fixed one of the tires on the
Bobcat, then we loaded up and headed just past Whitesburg. The front section of
the yard had a steep grade and needed to be raked, seeded, fertilized and
strawed.
The family has been having trouble with drainage, so we took all the rocks and
dirt raked off the hill and built up the earth under their porch. Jim and Megan
crawled under the porch to help move the dirt and place the rocks so that the
next rain won’t wash it away. Meanwhile, Harrison used the Bobcat to finish
their driveway.
After
lunch, we presented Harrison with a gift certificate from Sears. He is truly a
joy to work with, and does a great job of teaching and encouraging each member
of the group.
Later in the afternoon, we went back through Whitesburg to another home. The
Thomas family received a Bible and the keys to their new home, presented by the
HOMES staff and the leaders of the Reformed Church in America groups that have
been working on this particular home all summer.
Tonight we clean, pack and go out for pizza. We expect to get an early start
tomorrow, and should be back in the church parking lot between 2 & 3 o’clock.
Thank
you for your prayers this week, they were much appreciated, as is the support
you have given our mission team.
We’ll see you Sunday morning – when we will have so much more to tell you!
